【摘要】:Thepropertyofcolorofasolventvariesinimportancewiththeapplicationforwhichitisintended,theamountofcolorthatcanbetoleratedbeingdependentonthecolorcharacteristicsofthematerialinwhichitisused.Thepaint,varnish,andlacquersolvents,ordiluentscommerciallyavailableontoday''smarketnormallyhavelittleornocolor.Thepresenceorabsenceofcolorinsuchmaterialisanindicationofthedegreeofrefinementtowhichthesolventhasbeensubjectedorofthecleanlinessoftheshippingorstoragecontainerinwhichitishandled,orboth.Foranumberofyearsthetermx201C;water-whitex201D;wasconsideredsufficientasameasurementofsolventcolor.Severalexpressionsfordefiningx201C;water-whitex201D;graduallyappearedanditbecameevidentthatamoreprecisecolorstandardwasneeded.Thiswasaccomplishedin1952withtheadoptionofTestMethodD1209usingtheplatinum-cobaltscale.ThistestmethodissimilartothedescriptiongiveninStandardMethodsfortheExaminationofWaterandWasteWaterandisreferredtobymanyasx201C;APHAColor.x201D;Thepreparationoftheseplatinum-cobaltcolorstandardswasoriginallydescribedbyA.HazenintheAmericanChemicalJournalinwhichheassignedthenumber5(partspertenthousand)tohisplatinum-cobaltstocksolution.Subsequently,intheirfirstedition(1905)ofStandardMethodsfortheExaminationofWater,theAmericanPublicHealthAssociation,usingexactlythesameconcentrationofreagents,assignedthecolordesignation500(partspermillion)whichisthesameratio.Thepartspermillionnomenclatureisnotusedsincecolorisnotreferreddirectlytoaweightrelationship.Itisthereforerecommendedthattheincorrecttermx201C;HazenColorx201D;shouldnotbeused.Also,becauseitrefersprimarilytowater,thetermx201C;APHAColorx201D;isundesirable.Therecommendednomenclatureforreferringtothecoloroforganicliquidsisx201C;Platinum-CobaltColor,TestMethodD1209.x201D;ThepetroleumindustryusestheSayboltcolorimeterTestMethodD156formeasuringanddefiningthecolorofhydrocarbonsolvents;however,thissystemofcolormeasurementisnotcommonlyemployedoutsideofthepetroleumindustry.IthasbeenreportedbyvarioussourcesthataSayboltcolorof+25isequivalentto25intheplatinum-cobaltsystemortocolorsproducedbymassesofpotassiumdichromaterangingbetween4.8and5.6mgdissolvedin1Lofdistilledwater.Becauseofthedifferencesinthespectralcharacteristicsoftheseveralcolorsystemsbeingcomparedandthesubjectivemannerinwhichthemeasurementsaremade,exactequivalenciesaredifficulttoobtain.1.1Thistestmethoddescribesaprocedureforthevisualmeasurementofthecolorofessentiallylightcoloredliquids(Note1).Itisapplicableonlytomaterialsinwhichthecolor-producingbodiespresenthavelightabsorptioncharacteristicsnearlyidenticalwiththoseoftheplatinum-cobaltcolorstandardsused.Note18212;Aprocedureforestimatingcolorofdarkerliquids,describedforsolublenitrocellulosebasesolutions,isgiveninGuideD365.
